Zuid-Afrika gaat op 7 mei 2014 naar de stembus. Het zijn de vijfde vrije verkiezingen. De eerste democratische verkiezingen vonden plaats op 27 april 1994.
Even een kort bericht tussendoor. De Zuid-Afrikaanse president Jacob Zuma heeft de datum van de presidentsverkiezingen bekend gemaakt. Het wordt 7 mei 2014. Zie het onderstaande persbericht:
The Presidency has confirmed a 7 May date for general elections to take place. “After consulting with the IEC, I would like to inform the South African people locally and abroad, that the fifth national general elections in the Republic of South Africa will be held on the 7th of May 2014, throughout the country,” read a statement by the Presidency.
The Presidency also urged young people to take part in the final voter registration weekend, which takes place on 8 and 9 February 2014. “This is the last registration period for this election, and nobody must miss this opportunity.”
Zuma also called for a peaceful election, urging citizens to “promote peace, tolerance and peaceful coexistence”.
